Unlucky Rabbit's Foot
Newborn, a whispering rabbit
Venturing out into the world,
Into the wire
Into strangulation.
Blood-matted fur scatters
For her mother to find
While the caterpillars watch,
Watch the grief.
The stream nearby is tainted
Each fox and foxling
Know to stay away, stay away
Unbeknownst to the water,
And at the edge, a rabbit's foot
But not so lucky,
Not so lucky.
